Dunkirk: Trailer Review

BY AMIRY FAHMI

Dunkirk, is an upcoming 2017 war film directed, co-produced and written by Christopher Nolan – the director for the Dark Knight trilogy, Inception and Interstellar. The cinematographer for this film is Hoyte van Hoytema, who was also the cinematographer for the film Interstellar with Christopher Nolan.
Currently from the footage of the trailer, we can see some of the actors that will appear on screen such as Matt Damon (another war film), George Clooney, Bill Murray, and quite strangely Harry Styles from One Direction.
The plot of this story is still very vague. However, due to the scenes from the trailer and the title of the film, we can somewhat conclude that this film is based on the real life event that occurred during World War II, the Dunkirk evacuation – which took placed in France. To make this film even more realistic, Christopher Nolan even took production to the real location in Dunkirk.

The expectation of this film is pretty high for me personally, due to the fact that I have enjoyed all of Christopher Nolan’s films and also the cinematographer, who was also involved in the peculiar movie, Her. Therefore, I reckon this would be one of the best films of 2017, partly due to the historical aspects of it. Many would want to watch the movie because of Harry Styles’ appearance – a well thought marketing idea by the producer. However, I think we should give Harry Styles a chance, and as he is working with a successful, and creative director like Christopher Nolan, he might even be nominated for an Oscar. No sarcasm intended.
