Buta Trailer: Review

BY AMIRY FAHMI

Buta is a short film drama written and directed by Siti Nur Jannah, in which it becomes her first directed short film. A story that depicts the love-life struggle of Medina (starring Elliesya) and her abusive love partner Kufiz (starring Hafizul), the film centralizes on the repercussions that abuse can have towards an individual.
Siti Nur Jannah’s debut short film focuses on the facade of a man who portrays; love, care and companionship towards a female partner in the eyes of many, yet takes a different role behind closed doors of the world. The intriguing aspect of this film, is Medina’s constant act of denial towards her abusive boyfriend, in which she stays in the relationship for the sake of love. As she is confronted by her friend Elly (starring Hanum), she takes Elly by the hand and sweetly yet hurtfully tells her friend that the man who has created the bruises on her body, loves her no matter what.

Overall, audiences can observe and interpret the film with familiarity of the abusiveness that has been circulating around this world. In this film, we will see the life of a girl, confused and puzzled, by her decision to either stay for the man who she thinks loves her, or leave for the sake of her own safety, dignity and care.
